Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson said Friday that he recently went through a sudden medical emergency involving a series of neurological symptoms that doctors have not been able to explain. In a statement posted to social media, Henderson said his test results had come back positive and reassuring, but that the cause remains unknown, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported.

Henderson, 24, said the symptoms have affected his strength, his coordination and some of his physical functions, and that he is working with specialists and physical therapists on his recovery. He called his health and long-term well-being his first priority, and thanked his wife, his family, the Patriots, his agent and his medical team.

Neither Henderson nor the team has given further detail. He is listed as out for Sunday's game against Green Bay with an illness, on the team's Friday injury report, and he did not practice this week.

What the Patriots said

Coach Mike Vrabel spoke about Henderson after Friday's practice. "He is well loved and respected on our football team," Vrabel said, according to ESPN, adding that his concern was making sure Henderson and his wife, Kenzie, were cared for and comfortable with the recovery plan. Asked for a timeline, Vrabel declined to give one, and he did not commit either way on whether Henderson might be moved to a reserve list, Musket Fire reported.

How it unfolded

Henderson practiced twice after the Patriots' loss at Chicago on Oct. 22, then was added to the injury report with an illness on Oct. 29 and has not practiced since. He was ruled out of last Sunday's win at Miami. The Patriots signed running back Lan Larison from the practice squad to their 53-man roster the day before that game.

A second-round pick out of Ohio State in 2025, Henderson played in every regular-season game as a rookie and ran for 911 yards and nine touchdowns at 5.1 yards a carry, according to ESPN. This season he has 203 rushing yards on 52 carries with a touchdown in six games, plus five catches for 45 yards.

Rhamondre Stevenson, Corey Kiner and Larison are the running backs available for Sunday.
