The law in Massachusetts, in plain English
Mobile sports wagering has been legal in Massachusetts since March 2023 under G.L. c. 23N, the 2022 sports wagering law, and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission licenses every operator. Seven online books hold a Category 3 license: DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, Fanatics, Bally Bet and Penn's theScore Bet. Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park, in Plainville next to Foxborough, run retail sportsbooks. The Commission reopened applications this spring at bet365's request but had not licensed it at this review. The state's own problem gambling helpline is 1-800-327-5050.
Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell sued Kalshi in 2025, and a Suffolk Superior Court judge ordered its sports contracts shut off in January 2026. The Appeals Court stayed that order on Feb. 17 while Kalshi appealed, and the Supreme Judicial Court, which took the case directly and heard it in May, had not ruled as of Nov. 6. Polymarket US sued the state in federal court in February to head off the same treatment. Novig, a CFTC-regulated exchange where you take a position at a price set by other traders, is available in Massachusetts.
